About the community
This is a small of women who live in the slums of Delhi and come together daily for 2 hours to connect with a community set up to learn the skill of handmade sewing and have learnt to make beautiful quilts that are sold and used as table runners, cloths and wall mounted pieces. This provides a purpose financially but also to connect and share conversation with other women from the community. This time is important for the overall wellbeing of the women.
One of the women is Gauri of 32 years, she is married and has 3 children. She is the main provider for her family. She has been coming to the school for 3 years along with her children who are able to learn English and Maths also provided by the school.
Gauri has learnt to produce a quilt in 3-4 days and give to her family and the community group from the proceeds. She loves going to school and the opportunity it provides to her and for her to give back as part of an empowering community.
